A good breast pump is an investment and is a must have for working moms. Being a breastfeeding mom, I still would like to give my baby expressed milk even while I am away. The Medela brand was recommended to us by our OB and Pedia. They both used the brand and we receive good feedback from them.

For six months now, Gab is taking purely breastmilk, expressed with the help of the Medela breast pump. Here’s our review of the Medela Mini Electric Breast Pump.

Pros:

1. Small and lightweight. The Medela mini electric pump has a compact design that makes it easy to pack and carry. This is a small pump that is easy to use and can be operated using only one hand.

2. Easy to assemble and BPA-free parts. The pump only has five parts so assembly and cleaning will only take a few minutes. All components – the bottle, the membrane, the valve, the breastsheild – are BPA (Bisphenol A) – free. BPA has been considered as being harmful to health.

3. Vacuum Level Adjustment. The mini electric has a switch control that adjusts suction or vacuum level. You can adjust it according to your most comfortable level.

4. Customizable Breastshield. Medela pumps has 5 different sizes of the PersonalFit breastshields to meet every mother’s need. This is important to have an efficient pumping session without pain.

5. Convenient. The electric breastpump can be used with either the mains supply or batteries. Two AA batteries can be used to power the mini electric.

6. Product Support. Here in the Philippines, there’s an authorized dealer – Medela House. Run by Medela moms, they offer support and expertise aside from the wide array of specialized products and accessories for breastfeeding.

Cons:

1. Prize. The Medela mini electric is expensive compared to other electric pumps in the market. The pump costs Php 6,000 (Medela House).

2. One side pumping. The mini electric is capable of pumping only one side at a time.

3. Noise. The mini electric can be noisy during pumping compare to the manual pumps. The noise generated by the motor can distract babies when you are feeding on one side and pumping on the other.

Overall, the Medela Mini Electric Breast Pumps are very useful for breastfeeding mothers. It’s compact design is very convenient especially for a mom like me who goes to work and needs to express milk.
